Peterborough Trail Builders Association

The PTA is all about creating opportunities for mountain biking in Peterborough County.  Beyond harnessing the effort of a core team of volunteers to build some of the best trails in central Ontario, the PTA negotiates land use permissions on behalf of the mountain bike community.  They do all this on a tiny budget.  Although the trails are designed by and built for mountain biking hikers also enjoy the work of the PTA.

Although future plans are in the works, Harold Town Conservation Area is currently the hub of trail work for the PTA.

Questions For The PTA

Paul Wilkinson, President

What is the most satisfying part of all the hard work that PTA does?

We thrive on appreciation from the great people in the community

What role do the trails that you build play in the wellbeing of our community?

We believe that building  more places to play simply gives more people opportunities to find joy, community and peace outside.

Are there currently volunteer opportunities with the PTA?

Yes, always!.  We hold regular group builds.  The near-term plan is Wednesday evenings throughout June and July.  There's also trimming and leaf blowing that is organized through us as needed.  In addition, we occasionally need large groups to work on significant projects.

Are there exciting plans for new trail development that you can share with us?

The current priority is an extension of the trail network at Harold Town Conservation Area taking in some of the great elevation to the east of current trails…  We are also dreaming about having a skills development trail with pumps and berms built to the left of the shelter.

Is there anything that you wish more people knew about the work that the PTA does in our community?

We are focused on HTCA for the foreseeable future.  There's probably more opportunity for growth of the trail system there than people realize.
